A Roadmap for a More Sustainable Canadian Food System through Vertical Agriculture

May 29, 2024, 8:00 am to 9:00 am

Online Event

The focus of CAPI’s Doctoral Fellows Program for 2022-2024 has been on the intersection of trade, the environment and food security. To address this theme, our promising cohort of CAPI Doctoral Fellows has worked together on a Group project that studied how vertical agriculture can help achieve a more sustainable Canadian food system. While trade can give Canadians more choices in food products they might not otherwise have, trade also increases our vulnerability to climate change, trade disruptions and competitiveness issues. By studying fruit and vegetable imports in particular, the Doctoral Fellows identified vertical agriculture as a way of addressing these vulnerabilities. Given this newly emerging, technology-driven industry, the Doctoral Fellows have applied their multidisciplinary skills to develop a roadmap to support decision-making for vertical agriculture in Canada.

Join us on May 29, 2024 at 11 am EDT as the Doctoral Fellows present the results of their findings on a “Roadmap for Implementing Vertical Agriculture to make Food Systems in Canada more sustainable. The researchers will provide their perspective on this newly emerging innovative sector. This webinar is supported in part by the RBC Foundation through RBC Tech For Nature and part of CAPI’s larger environmental initiative, Spearheading Sustainable Solutions and was funded in part by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership’s AgriCompetitiveness Program.
